Hello everyone! Summer is coming to a close in the Northern Hemisphere, so it’s the perfect time to start breaking out your fall colors…And what better way to do it than by creating your own palette with Innisfree’s new My Palette custom palettes! (amazing segue into the post, I know)
A few months ago, Innisfree completely revamped their eyeshadow line, which came as a surprise because I feel like it hasn’t been that long since the last time they re-formulated their whole collection. They released all of their eye shadows, plus a bunch of new ones, into square, magnetic pans, and added an array of face products, both cream and powder, in the same format.
They also released a bunch of brushes, in both long and short sizes. I believe the smaller ones would fit in the largest palette! The smaller palettes fit 4 eye shadows/brow powders/colour correctors, or 2 face products. The medium fits 8 or 4, and the large fits 12 or 6. You can also mix and match them like you’ll see I did later in this post.
Like I stated above, the line includes a wide range of products. There is blush, contour, and highlight available in both powder and cream formats, eye shadows in matte, shimmer, and glitter finishes, along with eyebrow powder, colour correctors, and concealer. They claim that the products were formulated in Italy for extra high quality!
Because I own so many different eye shadows and palettes already, I tried to pick up colors I knew for sure I didn’t have. This didn’t lead to a very cohesive-looking palette, but that’s okay! 😀
When I bought my palette they had limited edition artsy palettes available, along with the plain gray ones. They have even more limited edition palettes available now!
Inside are two magnetic sections for putting your products, and a slot for makeup tools. There are little grooves in the magnetic sections to make it easier to remove your products once they’re in the palette if you ever need to.
It also came with two small applicators, but once again I have yet to use them. My never-ending “free brush discrimination” 😂.
Once I put my products in, they actually didn’t look that bad together! Despite having a cream product next to the shadows, I haven’t find that any powder has gotten into the highlighter yet.
From top left in clockwise order are M35 – Fresh Green Apple (풋풋한풋사과) / M31 – Swaying Canola Flower (한들한들유채꽃) / G16 – Radiant Zinnia (찬란한 백일홍) / G19 – Exploding Turquoise Wave (부서지는 물빛 파도). M is for Matte, and G is for Glitter.
The glitters have a buttery texture, and are similar to pressed pigments (but much less messy). I advise you apply them with your finger on top of a sticky base for the best results!
In order to get the true tones of the orange and green, I recommend going in with a clean brush. They are so light that they get muddy quickly if there is any trace of colour left on your brushes!
The cream highlighter is H01 – The Tide Illuminated by the Moon (달빛 비친 물결), which is the only cream highlighter available currently, and the eyeshadows are S27 – Dried Plum (말린 자두), and S32 – Scent of Dried Hydrangeas (마른 수국 향기). Both eyeshadows are classified as shimmers, but they look completely matte to me. S27 has a tiiiiiiiiiny hint of gold glitter in it in the pan when in direct sunlight, but I haven’t noticed it on my eyes.
The purples don’t look too different here, but I find that the biggest difference is in their undertones. S27 is much more warm toned than S32! As for the highlight, I like to apply it on my face with my finger for an extremely natural effect. I like to use it by itself on no-makeup days to give my face a healthy glow.
I used the highlighter on my cheeks, chin, forehead, and upper lip here. As you can see, it’s not overpowering and shimmers very naturally. There’s no glitter, so it offers a smooth, “glow from within” look. It also lasts all day even when wearing it on my bare face!
I used M31 blended into M35 on my crease, with G16 patted all over my lid. I then put S27 on my lower lash line, lined my waterline with Etude House’s Play 101 Blending Stick “04”, and used VDL’s Expert Glitter in Pencil on my inner corner. I think the green would show up brighter and more like it looks in the pan if I were to use a white base underneath it. Otherwise I’m happy with the pigmentation and blendability of these shadows.
Here you can see where I applied the highlight to my chin and cupid’s bow. For my lips I used Mamonde Creamy Tint Color Balm #24 as a base, with Etude House’s Twinshot Lips Tint in PK003 – Pink x Pumpkin Shot on top!
•○ Final Thoughts ○•
This concept is AWESOME. I own a million shadows and blushes already so it’s difficult for me to take full advantage of this, but I can see this being extremely useful for a wide range of people. There are soooo many different colours and products for you to create your own personalized look. They help you in-store to pick a colour story that’s perfect for you, and they also offer pre-made sets online if you’re not sure what to get! You can view the products on the Korean website here, and I’ve typed up the prices and gram information below.
EMPTY PALETTES:
Small – 7,000 KRW
Medium – 9,000 KRW
Large – 12,000 KRW
FACE PRODUCTS:
Concealer – 3 shades at 1.4g for 5,000 KRW
Color corrector – 3 shades at 1.2 to 1.4g for 5,000 KRW
Contour (powder) – 4 shades at 4g for 7,000 KRW
Highlighter (cream) – 1 shade at 2.6g for 7,000 KRW
Highlighter (powder) – 2 shades at 4g for 7,000 KRW
Blush (cream) – 5 shades at 2.6g for 7,000 KRW
Blush (powder) – 20 shades(!!) at 4g for 7,000 KRW
Eyebrow powder – 5 shades at 2.4g for 5,000 KRW
EYE SHADOW:
Glitter – 25 shades at 1.6 to 2.2g for 5,500 KRW
Matte – 43 shades + 1 primer at 1.2 to 2.3g for 5,000 KRW
Shimmer – 41 shades at 2g for 5,500 KRW
So, the most you would have to spend on a palette would be 54,000 KRW, and the least would be 21,000 KRW. Not cheap, but you can buy pieces of the palette over time, so it won’t feel like such a hefty investment.
